Round rackets have their weight concentrated near the handle (low balance). The sweet spot is large and centered, making them ideal for beginners, control-oriented players, and anyone with arm issues. You sacrifice raw power for consistency and comfort.

Teardrop shape

Balanced power and control

Teardrop rackets split the difference — the sweet spot is medium-sized and shifted slightly upward. This gives more power than round without sacrificing as much control as diamond. The most versatile shape, popular among intermediate and all-round players.

Diamond shape

Maximum power, smallest sweet spot

Diamond rackets concentrate weight at the top (high balance) with a small, high sweet spot. This delivers explosive power on smashes but demands clean technique — mishits are punished. Reserved for advanced and competitive players who can consistently find the sweet spot.

The sweet spot is the area of the racket face that produces the best combination of power and control. Larger sweet spots (round shapes) forgive off-center hits, making the racket more consistent and comfortable. Smaller sweet spots (diamond shapes) concentrate power but punish mishits. Knowing your sweet spot location helps you make clean contact.

Low balance (head-light) makes the racket maneuverable and arm-friendly — easier to swing fast and react at the net. High balance (head-heavy) adds power through mass at the top but requires more strength and can strain the arm. Medium balance is the versatile middle ground.

Most padel rackets weigh 360–375g. Heavier rackets (370g+) generate more power through mass and stability on contact. Lighter rackets (under 365g) are easier on the arm, faster to swing, and better for players with injuries. Your ideal weight depends on strength, style, and any pain.

Carbon types (surface)

3K, 12K, 18K — weave density and stiffness

The number refers to thousands of carbon filaments per strand. 3K is a lighter, more flexible weave (more comfortable, slightly less durable). 12K is the standard — a good balance of durability and stiffness. 18K is the densest — maximum stiffness, durability, and premium feel, but less forgiving. Fiberglass is softer, cheaper, and more comfortable but less durable.

EVA core hardness

Soft, medium, or hard — the heart of the racket

The EVA foam core determines the racket's feel. Soft EVA compresses more on contact, absorbing shock and giving a comfortable, trampoline-like feel — great for comfort and touch but less power. Hard EVA barely compresses, transferring maximum energy for power but feeling harsh on off-center hits. Medium EVA balances both. Some rackets use multi-density cores (soft on the outside, hard in the center) for the best of both.

Surface finish

Smooth vs rough — spin and feel

The hitting surface can be smooth or textured (sandblast, 3D pattern). Rough surfaces grip the ball more on contact, generating more spin and effects — useful for advanced players who use spin strategically. Smooth surfaces are more predictable and easier for beginners. The finish doesn't affect power significantly but changes how the ball comes off the face.

Every racket sits on a spectrum between power and control — you can't maximize both. Power rackets (diamond, hard core, high balance) hit harder but require clean technique. Control rackets (round, soft core, low balance) place the ball precisely but don't generate raw pace. The right choice depends on your style: if you win by overpowering opponents, lean power; if you win by placement and consistency, lean control.
